  1. Multitech MT5634ZBA-USB failing to finish installation

Occasionally I need to Fax documents to people who refuse to accept any other form of electronic communication (e.g. US Banks). I therefore tried to install my old MT5634ZBA-USB Fax MODEM onto my Windows 10 (1803 17134.523) laptop.

The Device Manager selects "mdmcpq.inf" as the required installation source and tries to install two Microsoft Windows 10 drivers:

    1) c:\Windows\system32\drivers\modem.sys - (10.0.17134.1 - 12/04/2018 00:34)

    2) c:\windows\system32\drivers\usbser.sys - (10.0.17134.1 - 12/04/2018 00:33)

The installation correctly recognises the MODEM type from the Vendor ID, but fails with:

I have used the Windows 10 troubleshooter, which claimed to have fixed the problem, but it failed to correct the issue.

So what is going on here and why won't the core Windows 10 INF files and drivers install properly?

I have also reached out to Multitech, but since all the components in use here are core Windows 10 and Multitech only needed to supply a specific INF file for Windows 7 I'm not hopeful they will help.

    KB4025339 Fails Install 0x80070564

    Thanks
I am trying Eagle 51's suggestions now. Windows Update troubleshooter found a bunch of errors and fixed all but one.The update is trying to download KB4025339 again. I'll see what happens. At step one troubleshooter finishes with one error unresolved "Potential Windows Update Database Error Detected-Not Fixed". Windows update stalled at 0%.

At step 2 same troubleshooter error. The KB finished a new download failed to install.
Did step 3 KB has downloaded but fails to install.

    If Eagle's suggestion doesn't work I'll try EdTittel's suggestion

Tried bothe Eagle & Ed 's suggestions - do not work. Anyone else?

I have noticed that the latest update for my nvidia drivers has failed to update. Wondering about that!

  4. Multitech MT5634ZBA-USB failing to finish installation

After Upgrading to Windows 10, my MultiTech MT5634ZBA-USB modem won't start

Almost year later but if someone has similar problem - .inf file is not signed. Multitech is not interested in seeking Win10 certification for their device. I'm guessing that if you switch off checking for digital signatures it will work again. I have
not tried it but it is most likely the case as device is recognized as usb-cdc device (does not require additional binaries as it is serviced by usbser.sys driver).
