Windows 10: must recover today's work. please help me!

okay. i will start with a confession: i am still using office 2010. okay?

i mean, i know i SHOULD have paid a load to save all my stuff on your cloud or something, but i'm uneasy with it, and there is nobody home at the local microsoft store.


that said, here's my problem:


i typed a three-page word document today and i was quite certain i had saved it when I got interrupted by an urgent problem on the ground


when i went back to find it, it wasn't where i thought i'd saved it. I have searched the hard drive every way i know how, including the obvious and extending to trying to look all over in "this pc" with "datemodifiedcolon". This last brought up docs dating to 1998, but there is NO SIGN OF TODAY'S WORK. opening the program doesn't seem to work, either, but maybe that is because the poor old program is stuck in whatever backwater windows 10 assigned it to. grasping at straws here. i do always set my word processor to back up as often as possible--so i'd be happy to find ANY version of the doc i started out on this morning.


Somebody out there must know some way for me to recover this vital document. Please?


WHOA! before you start with the suggestions, you need to understand that i do not use most of the Windows 10 "apps" because when i made the transition from win 7 to win 10--guess what? I could not find anything that i knew had been transferred to the brand-new hard drive with the installation of win 10. i don't trust it, so there is no cordana or whatever you call it, and. i never save anything and have no "accounts" in cyberspace. in fact, i've signed in here on somebody else's "account" because the microsoft account that comes right up on my hard drive is foreign to me, but i cannot get past it to any of my old reliable accounts. i feel like i've been highjacked. hijacked? anyway, my nerves are raw, and i have closed everything i can close to let this silly machine rest--but i have not turned it off! i'll be back in 30 minutes or so--after i find some some food for my blood sugar


it's an emergency of faith. well might be the last chance for microsoft to impress me. and i'm taking risk of leaving the whole thing open here waiting for some saint to bless me. thanks

Since none of the troubleshooting steps here worked, I'd suggest you do a Clean install.
