Must reset laptop for headphones to work

The only way to get the headphones to work was by specifically turning on the laptop AFTER you've connected the headphones, then it would start up fine & the headphones would work. If I disconnect them or start the laptop without having them connected, then the audio would come directly from the built-in speakers. Connecting & disconnecting the headphones will not redirect any audio, you have to specifically reset/shut down & have it turn back on with the headphones in.

I've had this problem for a while. Previously, a menu from Waves Audio would pop up every time anything was connected to the headphone jack & you would select one of the headphones options & the headphones would work. For some reason, that menu never pops up anymore it's been over a year like this, & I can't seem to use MaxxAudioPro either, which works as an equalizer. It always says device unavailable whenever I open it with my headphones on & functioning properly.

I didn't mind it, but now it requires TWO resets. If I turn the laptop on evenwith them connected, it still won't redirect, I now have to turn it on & reset it just for the headphones to work. It's nothing to cry about, but having to spend over a minute of my laptop booting up & restarting just for headphones is just nonsensical.

I regularly check for driver updates using DriverEasy so it most likely isn't just that my audio driver needs an update, although it could still be a driver issue, I'm not really sure.

I'm not sure if rolling back any drivers would help as I've had this problem for a while, over a year or so, & only now am I starting to see it get worse. The additional reset issue started maybe over a week ago, probably coinciding with the Windows update?

I'm not sure what specs would be helpful & I really only know surface-level things about computers. It's no fuss to give any more

    Inspiron 5575 ~2 years old

    Windows 64-bit

    Realtek Audio Driver most recent

Waves MaxxAudio Pro ver. 1.0 107.0 not sure how to delete/upgrade this at all

There's also something called AMD High Audio Definition Device, not sure if that's helpful.

    :)
