    Mute key does not work properly on windows 10


    Whenever I press the mute key on windows 10 it shows the mute icon on the volume bar on the top left, but I can still hear sound. I can turn the sound off by reducing it all the way and I can't hear anything, but the actual mute feature does not work. I am on a custom built PC and have tried driver restarts, driver updates, windows updates, yet it still doesn't work.

    Nope, you need to install Windows 10 first and make sure the Windows 7 key is transferred to your Windows account after you've installed Windows 10 (not quite sure how that works). I missed the last step and I could not activate Windows 10 after a re-install... Microsoft seem to have done everything they can to make it a PITA. Also, it's technically too late to do this now anyhow, as the upgrade offer has expired. But KMSPico works quite well...

    As for getting rid of Windows, delete the Windows folder.

    Speaker MUTE Key and ICON

    The suggestions about restarting the explorer.exe and running sfc didn't fix the problem. I don't think there is a
    corruped file becuase the mute switch worked fine until the day I upgraded from 7 to 10.

    I ran a copy of Linux Live and the mute icon works fine, going back to win 10 the mute switch is always on regardless the postilion of the speaker mute key, the ICON is always on.
