Windows 10: My 1TB C: drive completely full without storing any data or installing any Havey software

Hi Guys,My C: drive with 1 TB Storage space. It Reduced from more than 700 GB+ Free space to only 500MB free space. I haven't stored any data there or installed any heavy software. After that, I uninstalled my Visual studio 2022 and SQL Server after 1 day those spaces have also gone. what can I do to resolve this problem.

I'd recommend you to try using a different USB cable with it and see if that will help your system to detect it without it disconnecting.
I'd also suggest you to go to Disk Management and see how the drive is listed there. It won't hurt to check up on the health and SMART status of the HDD by running the QUICK and EXTENDED tests from the WD's Data LifeGuard Diagnostics. I guess you need a bootable device and a Windows ISO file.

Before you start, it would be better if this question cleared: If your C drive on a disk that only 32GB in size?

If yes, then it is suggested to replace it with a bigger one, even 128GB would be much better considering you have 1TB external storage.

If no, you can extend your C drive with the left space/partition on that disk. Then, it will be large enough to reinstall new Windows.

One more question, Is your 1TB external drive a portable disk or can you install it on your machine to replace the internal disk? If yes, you can replace the internal disk with the 1TB drive and do clean install with aforementioned bootable device or installation
disk.

BTW, if your 32GB D drive is an SD card, definitely no software would go there. You need to install and run software on hard drive instead of flash drive (SD card/USB) for a long run.

 

No C: but D: drive has all the data

To help you with your concern regarding the data on the drive C:, you're seeing the drive "C:" as the drive "D:" because you're booting your computer outside Windows. When booting your computer outside Windows, the system is reading the recovery partition
as drive C: and the data in the drive C: \ are listed on the drive D: \. Try to boot your computer and try to check again the data in the drive C: \ and see if the data are listed.
