My authentication for several sites has stopped working.

I have noticed I'm no longer able to log in to numerous websites. The number of sites seems to have increased during the past few weeks. I can log in on my phone but on my laptop, it says authentication failed. I tried the following steps:- Different browsers,- Private mode,- Clear cookies/cache,- Turn off firewall.Nothing has worked. On one site I received the following error message: Your request has been blocked by the site's firewall.

    :)

Internet Explorer 11 stops working for one web site only

This is an isolated problem. It only affects one web site. I have asked other uses and they do not have the problem. I do not have the problem on iPad only on my desktop.

The problem: When I access the Tasmanian Archives web site Internet Explorer11 intermittently and persistently stops working despite deleting history in Internet Options.

    • I accessed a link from a trusted email from Tasmanian Archives.
    • Since then the problem has persistently occurred. They have no answers to it at all.
    • Deleted history and cookies in Internet options. Did not tick the top box about favourites and did not delete passwords. The problem persisted.
    • Did step 3 and restarted computer. Didn't alter the problem.
    • Deleted everything through Internet options. Problem persisted.
    • Did step 3 and restarted computer.
    • Thought problem solved used website a few times then IE stopped working again.
    • Have been through step 6 numerous times and it will work for awhile then not. But it only stops working when I use:
    search.archives.tas.gov.au

    www.linc.tas.gov.au

and not for all links within site. No rhyme or reason to which link I click on what will happen. It started with the HOW TO tab.

I am exasperated, frustrated, annoyed and a few other things. It has been going on for over a week now.

I do not know what else I can do.

    Any suggestions, please.

Sharepoint doesn't support this authentication scheme. For assistance contact the person who manages this Sharepoint site.

    Hi Mathew,

sorry for ambiguous terms and definitions, I tend to ignore those when posting to forums. I'm sorry I can't point you to a MS article explaining the same, hopefully it will be available soon.

To clarify - "external = outside = via mobile network" basically relates to any type of access where you would have "." in server address. Office Hub treats such adresses as belonging to "Internet" security zone, and thus unsecured for http access.

I'm not saying this is unsupported, I'm saying it didn't work for me. To access my SharePoint site by "companyweb.mycompany.com" I had to use https access and a valid certificate on IIS site used for Forms Based Authentication.

What I suggest is that you first try to get your SharePoint login page for Forms Based Authentication display correctly in any IE browser, then in IE browser on WP7 by usinghttps://companyweb.mycompany.com
(no errors, no warnings and able to actually use it to log in to SharePoint).

As far as the rest of my config goes:

    • Web application set up for claims based authentication extended to 2 IIS sites.
    • First site using "Default zone" is set up only for Windows Integrated Kerberos authentication.
    • Second site using "Internet zone" is set up for FBA. This site is using custom tcp port binding in IIS to direct WP7 Office Hub https traffic to this site. In my case this ishttps://companyweb.mycompany.com:444.
The port is allowed through my NAT device and in Windows Firewall on the server.
    • Alternate access mapping for web application has to be set to the above URL for Internet zone.
    • I have a valid SSL certificate issued by public trusted authority installed on both IIS sites for https binding.
I must point out that this setup was created only to allow Windows Integrated and Forms Based authentication on my web application. The reason why I had to split the IIS sites is because when I combined both authentication mechanisms on a single IIS site
and "Default zone" I was getting directed to the page for choosing the desired authentication mechanism which worked OK in all browsers but appeared to be "frozen" (non-responsive to user input) when accessed through WP7 Office Hub.

Such setup is unnecessary if you only allow FBA for your application (or figure out how to "unfreeze" the authentication mechanism selection page in WP7 Office Hub). And as far as the setting up of FBA provider for claims enabled SharePoint 2010 web application
is concerned, I followed the sridhara's walk-through practically to the letter.

And to put you in my shoes My authentication for several sites has stopped working. :) - what do you mean "still no joy?". What error exactly are you getting and where? Have you tried the steps I suggested in my related post? Which one is failing?

    Regards,

    Tomislav
