I only see the bitlocker key for the hard drive that was setup when I first bought the computer. Is there a way to get my bitlocker key back on the list of bitlockers online?

    :)

Bitlocker and lost the key with the USB - New Hard Drive or Reformat?

I have a laptop that I installed Bitlocker to the C drive and at to start at boot. That is the only drive I encrypted.

The key was on a USB only which was lost. I can handle lossing my data but I want to save the laptop, but is it as simple as dropping a new hard drive in and reformat or can I format over the existing C drive? It is an HP4540S I have all the CDs that came
with the system but the primary windows disc I think was installed on C (not sure)drive. Should have used a password. Thanks for any help that can be provided.

Bitlocker and lost the key with the USB - New Hard Drive or Reformat?

There is no reason (a) that you should think that because something bad happened to you that it will happen to everyone, and (b) that an encrypted drive shouldn't be formatted. While sharing your experience is a good thing, it's not a good thing to make
it sound like the earth will explode if the OP tries to format his drive. I have formatted several Bitlocker-encrypted flash drives and hard drives uneventfully.

Also, while there is a command line utility for managing Bitlocker, it's useless without the password or encryption key, so you shouldn't be giving false hope in that direction either. For the OP, go ahead and format the drive.
