Windows 10: My CDROM is suddenly showing as RAW

Hi All,


I don't know how or why but Windows 10-Pro stopped recognizing anything I put into my CD Drive even though it was shown in Disk Mgmt as healthy.


I found out that a RAW Disk can't be recognized by Windows, so I tried multiple suggestions I read about and kept getting something to the effect of "Windows can't do anything with a protected drive". In Disk Management it lists Disks 0 - 9 and then CD-ROM 0, In Disk Part it lists Disks 0-9 also but no CD. When I list Volumes in Disk Part it lists 0-14, with 0 being DVD-ROM with RAW file system.


How can I reformat the CD drive when Windows tells be it can not access the disk?

Save RAW drive - Don't want data


Open Admin command prompt, then type:

1. diskpart
2. list disk ======> Take note of disk # of the RAW drive
3. select disk # ======> is the number in step 2
4. clean
5. exit

Open Disk Management and initialize it, Create Simple, format.

 

How to convert RAW partition to NTFS partition.

Thanks for your reply. Apparently the convert drive to NTFS doesn't work when the drive is RAW. After following your instructions in step 2 I get message "convert is not available for RAW drives.

Any suggestions?

Your HD became RAW (Corrupted Master Boot Record) for one of the reasons below:

1. HD is going bad
2. Power Surge
3. You unplug the cable and did not use "Safely Remove" while the HD is performing disk I/O
