Windows 10: My computer has a black screen with the cursor, restoring is not working. Please help

I turned on my computer and when I logged on the screen was black and I could only see the cursor. I read instructions on how to fix it, booting on in safe mode and doing a system restore. It worked after that, however the next day when I went to use my computer again the black screen with the cursor was happening again. When I followed the same instructions it didn’t work this time. Please help

Living in Fear: Updated to Ten (Gateway SX-2800), it worked for a month.
After an update came black screen with cursor. TenForum solution (3
shutdowns before full start) and restart fixed. Updated video and other
drivers. Another update event, happened again, this time auto fix did not
fix. Advanced to system restore. Worked once. I was on a special project,
feared same problem, so I left computer on for 2 weeks, no problem. Then
was forced to restart with update. (BTW -sorry didn't mention *SadI GET THE SIGN ON
SCREEN EACH TIME , AND ENTER PASSWORD) then black screen - and now no fixes
work, no restore points. Current status - active cursor, notifications and windows pop up
over a black screen, addressing second monitor with blind keystrokes on and
off works (evidenced by cursor), task manager opens (ctrl alt del) and
seems fully functional. Lots of functions in task manager show stopped.
Seems like desktop is there but screen is black. Any possible fix through
task manager or by keystrokes?? tried all fixes found here. Help!!

It is frozen or just black screen in Safe mode ?
might try to repair Windows by an installation DVD or a USB stick

I haven't found much that can fix a black screen issue.
Here's what I try at work:
- reboot the system several times and let it sit for a while (up to 30 minutes) while at the black screen (you can try to use the computer during these times).
- System Restore point
- RESET with Keep My Files (access from the boot and it should be able to be accessed)

Beyond that I've spent weeks trying to fix these things without success.
Now (at work), we try the above steps and if they don't work - we wipe and reinstall Windows (so I'd suggest backing up the system and then restoring the Macrium image)
