  2. Error Message "No boot drive available. Press F1 to retry boot. Press F2 for System Utility."

    original title - Error Message

For the past four or five days and when my PC is idle for more than 10 min., I get a blank screen with the following message in the top right hand corner:

    "No boot drive available.

Press F1 to retry boot. Press F2 for System Utility."

This happens whether I'm in a program or not.

Can this be fixed or is my PC unrepairable?

I'm going to try some of the things that you guys suggested now.

Well, I figured out what was wrong. It took all of about 2min. of investigation, LOLz. I just never took the time to try to figure it out because it really didn't bother me to press F1.

    Thanks for the help guys!

My computer has this error message upon boot but when I press either f8 or f1 this happens...

    unknown error during booting process

Suddenly, after working for many years without problems, during booting a Bios window appears with: please enter setup to recover BIOS setting. Press F1 to run Setup.
Pressing F1 brings you in the Bios. After not changing anything, booting continues without problems. Everything works as it should be. Apparently, an error occuring during the boot process has no influence on the performance.
After restart, the F1 message is not presented; after shutting down for some hr, the F1 message is presented again. I set the Bios on default values: F1 message remains.

It might be the CMOS battery, but date/time are correct.
I could disable in the Bios: Wait for F1 if error detected, but that does not seem a clever solution.
So: is there a way to retrieve what error is detected in the boot process?
Could it be the CMOS battery, despite correct date/time readings.
    Any other suggestion?
