My computer keeps earasing all my files outside of the drive and restoring to...

I’ve spent days trying to fix this and i really need help. On Tuesday my laptop ACER Windows 10 rebooted and when I signed in it said “preparing windows” and when I got signed in it was back to default and all my folders and everything were gone outside of the ones still exisying in the c drive. It also says i am logged in with a temporary account yet it also says I am in my actual account that I have been using all along. I’ve signed in and signed out countless times, restarted, shut it off for hours all the simple solutions I have done and none of them worked.

I moved on and gave up and started customizing my laptop back to the way it was ignoring it, but yesterday it happened again but this time it took all my pictures with it. I installed EaseUS to retrieve them and they were not found. I installed CCleaner to see if it could find my problem and nothing was found. I Have gone into create a restore point, chose 2 different restore points and both froze and continued for hours with no progress.

I am only 16 and on lockdown right now so i cannot go and get extra drives. But if that is the solution let me know regardless. Getting all my folders back is not my priority anymore I just want this to stop happening so I can do my school work. Please dont remind me i should have saved everything and setup backup, as i am well aware and know for next time.

I am not sure if i put enough information, is there a solution to all this or do I just need to get a new laptop? Please help, thanks

    :)

how to copy files from the CD to the Computer drive

    Hi Hankriegler,

I would suggest you to follow the steps below:

    • Press Windows key + X.

    • Click file explorer from the list.

    • Select the CD/DVD drive and hit Enter.

    • Select the files you want to copy from the CD/DVD, then select the drive where you want to paste or save.
I hope the information is helpful.

    Thank you.

    Free hard drive backup/restore program?

I am looking for a free (freeware) program that will back up and restore a hard drive. I'm looking to clone a few external hard drives. If the program will backup the used space instead of the whole drive this will be awesome! Thanks for any suggestions.

    File History Restore Not Working

My apologies for my not explaining my problem clearly.

File History would always list my external drive. It would not list the File History backup subfolder, "Computer Name", which contained my backup.

I completed the 5 steps you recommended, and in step (4), using Windows Explorer, I opted to change the name to "File History.old" instead of deleting it. Had I deleted it, all my backup files that I want to reload onto drive C would have been gone.

When I look at the external backup drive in Windows Explorer it now shows 4 folders, $RECYCLE.BIN, FileHistory, FileHistory.old and System Volume Information. Bottom line, FileHistory contains only the backed up data currently on Drive C as a result of step
5, while FileHistory.old contains the data I wish to reload.

Now when I go to Control Panel/File History/Select drive, and select the external backup drive, only the subfolder contained in FileHistory shows up. The subfolder contained in FileHistory.old, which contains the data I wish to restore, is still not listed.
When I select "Restore personal files" it only shows folders associated with FileHistory.

Thanks for your attention and help, but I am now resigned to copying and pasting the files that I need to restore. I totally yield to the higher power that is Microsoft.

    Again thanks,

    RP
