Can't upload an image of my event viewer for some reason, but the critical errors say that:"The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly." The source is Kernel-Power, which I don't understand what that does and the minidump is not showing the recent *crashes*, I say that because the PC doesn't tell me what went wrong. I also have warnings, but I don't think they are as

    :)

  2. PC keeps restarting

If you computer is just restarting on its own (turns off and comes back on all by itself) - generally from what I've seen it's some sort of software issue. Whether it's with Windows itself, a virus/malware, bad program or driver - they tend to cause the computer to restart when something goes wrong.

I'd start by looking through event viewer, see if any application or system errors are being reported at the time of your reboots.

Windows 10 Shutdown - reboots or goes to red screen

    HI,

The PC is self built and is fast and stable and has been stable for years. I've been building fast gaming spec pc's for the past 20 years.

Current PC Specs are as follows:

    • CPU - i7-3770K @ 3.5ghz (stock speed)
    • Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H Motherboard
    • 1 x Samsung 256GB 840 Pro SSD (System Drive)
    • 2 x Western Digital Black Hard Drives (non raid) for 2x separate storage
    • 1 x TP-Link Gigabit PCI Network Adapter
    • 1 x ASUS ROG Xonar Phoebus 7.1 PCI-E Soundcard
    • Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C10 1600MHz Dual Channel Memory
    • EVGA GeForce GTX 660TI SuperClocked 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
    • Asus MX279 Flat Panel Monitor

As for the monitor, there's nothing wrong with the monitor. The only time it ever displays a red square is when Windows 10 reboots itself on shut-down. No other time, ever and I reboot my computer probably more than 10 times a day and it's on for a lot of
hours per day, every day, 7 days a week. So I'd have plenty of time to notice and monitor issue.

That suggests quite clearly that it is Windows that is feeding a red square image to the monitor, not the monitor that's failing to function.

I have the very latest drivers on the system all of which were on when it was Win 7 or were updated by the Win 10 installer.

    PC windows 10 keeps restarting

    Hello Cynthia,

We regret for the inconvenience. Let me assist you.

Before we proceed further, let us know a few more details on the below questions.

    • What is the make and model of the PCs you are using?
    • Did you make any changes to the PC prior to the issue?

As an initial recommendation, I suggest you to boot the computer in safe mode with networking, and check if the issue still persists. This is a diagnostic step towards identifying and isolating the possible cause/s of the issue.

    Safe Mode With Networking:

Safe mode is a troubleshooting option for Windows that starts your computer in a limited state. Only the basic files and drivers necessary to run Windows are started. The words
Safe Mode appear in the corners of your monitor to identify which Windows mode you're using.

Refer: Start your PC in safe
    mode in Windows 10

Refer to the section From the Sign-in screen

If you are able to start the PC normally this time. Use the following steps to disable automatic restart in Windows on system failure.

    • At "Start" -> "This PC" --> right click on "Properties", and then tap "Advanced system settings".
    • In Advanced, click on "Settings" for Startup and Recovery.
    • In the Startup and Recovery window, uncheck the Automatically restart check box.
    • Click OK.

    • Now if the computer generates an error, it should not automatically restart

Once this is done, reboot the computer in normal mode and check.

Let us know the updated status and the required information for us to be able to assist you further.

    Thank you.
