Windows 10: My computer uses 50% of my RAM while idle

    My computer uses 50% of my RAM while idle


    Even with no programs open, on the desktop, my computer is eating through 4.2GB of my 8GB of RAM. Does anyone have a solution?

    Windows Using Upwards of 60% RAM when Idle

    Hey community,

    I've noticed when my system is idle (nothing actively open), it's using 50% to 60% RAM. I've searched around a bunch and tried some suggestions, but none have fixed the issue. I've booted into safe mode in an attempt to find the source of the issue but wasn't
    able to as the system idled at only 15%.

    My computer has 16 GB of RAM, but I can really only use half of it. Looking through the running processes in Task Manager and Resource Monitor, the usage values don't even add up to the amount used - something hidden is using a bunch of extra RAM.

    If anyone could point me in the right direction, I'd greatly appreciate it.

    System Specs:

    Intel Core i7 6700k

    16 GB RAM

    Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 8 GB

    Let me know if I need to provide more information.

    RAM usage 50±% on idle.

    Hello, my laptop uses around 50% RAM usage when its not doing anything.

    I'd like to have this fixed.

    1GB of RAM is being used while computer is idle!


    I find that on most computers sitting idle at the desktop with antivirus in the background and all other startup programs trimmed out, that windows 7,8 and now win10 use about 1.2 to 1.8gb ram.

    I would think your bigger benefit would be to clean up the startup list to only what windows needs to run correctly and your antivirus.
