  1. My computer will not update Windows 11 because I am not the administrator

I bought a brand new laptop 5 months ago. I am the only user. I have always been the only user. I just realized my computer has failed to update since January 2025. I tried to manually update and it gave me error code 0x80070005. I tried to fix this and the command prompt is telling me I do not have access/permissions because i am not the admin; however, my status clearly shows me as admin. I tried enabling the system admin which did not work. I tried running the troubleshooter, which did not work. How can I update my computer?

    :)

  2. Windows 10, Says I'm not the Administrator of my own computer any more.

    Hi Elissa,

Thank you for the update. You may check this article on how to disable OneDrive on your computer. Regarding your "not the Administrator" issue, we suggest that you
enable the built-in administrator account on Windows 10 by running a command in an elevated command prompt. In order to do so, kindly follow these steps:

    • Open Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
    • Accept the User Account Control prompt.
    • Enter this command to enable the hidden administrator account:
      net user administrator /active:yes

We would appreciate an update about how it went.

  3. Becoming the administrator on my own computer

    Hi Joan,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community. Appreciate your interest in using Windows 10.

I suggest you to enable the built-in Administrator account by following the steps below:

    • Right click in the Start icon and select Command Prompt (Admin).
    • Type the below command:
    Net user administrator active:yes

    3. Restart the computer and login to the built-in Administrator account.

    4. Delete the account which is not required and make the required account as Administrator.

    5. Sign-out from the built-in administrator account and login to the other account which is made as the Administrator and check for status.

After creating a new Administrator account, disable the built-in Administrator account by following the steps below:

    • Right click in the Start icon and select Command Prompt (Admin).
    • Type the below command:
    Net user administrator active:no

Hope the information is helpful. Feel free to write to us for any other assistance with Windows, we’ll be glad to assist you.

  4. My computer will not update Windows 11 because I am not the administrator

Still struggling with the "Need Administrator Permission" to delete files on my own computer

I have tried to delete files from my computer that I put there. I get a box saying I need administrator permission, but this is my own personal computer. I have found others that have had the same problem, but the steps don't make sense with the windows program that I have now in september 2022 for windows 11. Any updated steps for how to get administrator permission on my own computer, or to at least remove this administrator permission requirement?

I am listed as "administrator" under settings>accounts... and that's who I am signed in as.

This article looked like it was going to help me with Windows 11, but it didn't.

    Thanks,

    Lisa
