It seems like whenever I open task manager I see my cpu at 100% then slowly drop down, at first I thought it was the game I was playing due to it showing the game as the thing going up to 100% then going down but when I closed the game and closed the task manager and checked again it seemed to have moved to the task manager being the thing going to 100% then back down and I decided to test it with other apps such as opera gx, steam etc and it seems to show whatever I have open as the cause idk if it’s a malware or something since I’m not as educated as most people on pcs, I’ve had my pc for ar

  2. CPU usage remains above 50% until i open task manager

Hello i noticed that my CPU was being used more than 50 percent until i open task manager. Just as if i am browsing or working on excel , i see my CPU usage spike from 10% to 60% and if i try to see which app or processor is consuming the CPU through task manager the CPU usage drops below 10%. Even while playing games, i monitor using msi afterburner CPU spike from 25% to 75% all of the sudden and even if i close the game morethan 50% of CPU will still be on use. Thenif i open taskmanager then only the CPU usage drops to normal. But if i keep task manager open and do anything gaming, browsing the CPU usage will always be normal. The issue is only seen when task manager or any process monitoring software is turned off.

CPU usage and temperature spikes when Task Manager is not opened

Hello! My name is Cristiano. I'm an Independent Advisor. I'm glad to help you.

Here are some possible reasons why this may be happening and what you can do to resolve the issue.

    1.

One of the most common reasons for unusual spikes in CPU usage and temperature is malware or viruses. Malicious programs running in the background can cause significant system resource usage, leading to high CPU usage and temperatures. Ensure that your antivirus software is up-to-date and perform a full scan of your system to detect any malware or viruses that may be present.

    2.

Outdated drivers or firmware can cause various hardware-related issues, including high CPU usage and temperature spikes. Ensure that all of your laptop's drivers and firmware are up-to-date by checking the manufacturer's website for any updates.

    3.

Windows power plan settings can cause your laptop's CPU to use more power than necessary, leading to high temperatures and usage. Ensure that your laptop's power plan settings are set to Balanced or Power Saver to reduce CPU usage and temperature.

    4.

Some background applications or services may be causing high CPU usage and temperatures. To identify these applications, open the Task Manager and check the list of running processes. Disable any unnecessary or unwanted applications or services.

    5.

The BIOS settings of your laptop may have options to control CPU usage and temperature. Check your laptop's manual to find the relevant BIOS settings, and make any necessary adjustments to optimize CPU usage and temperature.

Consider performing a malware scan, updating your drivers and firmware, adjusting your power plan settings, disabling unnecessary background applications or services, and checking your BIOS settings to optimize your laptop's performance and reduce the risk of overheating.
