(Posted this in r/techsupport already but no replies as of yet)

My laptop model is Acer Predator Helios 300 PH315-51

I encountered this issue today when my game crashed while I was playing it. Went to relaunch the game and Steam said there was a disk read error and I had never seen that before. Then it told me to re-install the game and I was super confused. Went to the D: drive and literally could not find it. It just disappeared. I had all my steam games and some backup files and school files in my D: drive.

Tried downloading EaseUS Partition Recovery but the scanner couldn't find the missing partition only the main C: drive and some smaller ones with less than 1GB. (my D: drive had the most storage allocated to it like 900GB or something).

I also went on disk management and could not find my D: drive there its just completely gone.

It literally happened randomly. My laptop had no issues before this, except disfunctional fan which I bought a new one and replaced the old broken one. But idk how this would affect my drivers in any way.

I haven't restarted my laptop because I'm scared it will disappear forever or something. I have no idea what to do. I can't find the missing drive.

Should I try system restore or something? Revert to an older version? Idk how I start fixing this issue. Kinda urgent lol.

All data from Drive D:/ disappeared or is not recognized

    Hello everyone

I am using a ASUS ROG laptop with two drives: a SSD "C:/" called "OS" and a HDD "D:/" called DATA.

After uninstalling 4 or 5 games from my laptop (properly, using the Applications list to uninstall), all my games, music, pictures, etc stored on drive D (DATA) suddenly looked to have disappeared. Steam is still working but all games show as uninstalled, Origin isn't even working at all anymore, all my music, videos etc can't be found and played anymore.

When trying to play a mp3 from "recent files", it says that drive D is not available and the file can't be found.

Drive D is still visible and can be opened but it appears almost empty, which shouldn't be the case. I think all my data is still there but can't be seen. I can still see all my Origin and Steam games in the Apllications list. It's like the data is not available or recognized anymore. The laptop runs fine (fast, no weird noises, no system error).

    Any suggestion? Thanks a lot!

  3. Disk Management

    Hi Keith,

Thanks for providing the detail that was requested previously. Since the disk management screen that you saw is showing greyed out options, we suggest that you follow the steps below to change the partition type of your internal drive:

    • Open Disk Management then right click the partition on the disk you want to covert and select Delete Volume.
    • Once you complete the process you will see the whole disk shown as two separate unallocated spaces. Right-click the disk and select Convert to GPT disk.

After the conversion, you will be able to use the whole disk and then you can create new separate partitions.

We look forward to your response to our queries.

Cannot access D drive since upgrading to Windows 10.

    Hello Judy,

Thank you for replying quickly with the status of the issue.

Please reply to few more questions:

    • Is the D: drive located on the same hard disk or on different hard disk?

    • Did you have any important data saved on the
      D:
      drive?

If the D: is saved on another hard disk and you are unable to access it, I suggest you to format the drive completely and check if the issue is resolved.

To format the hard disk, follow the steps below:

    • Press Windows logo + X keys on the keyboard and select
      Disk management option.

    • Right click on the D: drive and select
      Format option.

    • Wait for the formatting to complete and check if the changes are effective.

Write to us with the status of the issue for further assistance. Your reply is most important for us to ensure we assist you accordingly.

    Thank you.
