  1. My D drive has been set to readonly, how to remove the write protection?

Hi All, My D drive has been set to readonly, and I am unable to write anything on it using my Windows 10 Pro laptop, a Dell Latitude 3420. I have attempted using Regedit to create StorageDevice rules and to clear the disk's properties to readonly. It didn't work after all the attempts. Could you try to help me in resolving this?

    :)

    Removing Write Protection

    Have you tried diskpart?

    diskpart
    list disk
    select disk x
    attributes disk clear readonly

Setting readonly on a friend's flash drive is also a fun and quite simple prank. (Only works on NTFS, not FAT)

  3. Drive is write protected and cant clear readonly or repair

My computer crashed and booted to BIOS. All windows recovery and repair tools failed. I booted from an old sata drive.

The drive I have is a 1 year old Samsung 970 evo m.2 nvme and it appears to be write protected.

Diskpart does not appear to be able to clear this:

    DISKPART> select disk 1

Disk 1 is now the selected disk.

    DISKPART> attributes disk

    Current Read-only State : Yes

    Read-only : No

    Boot Disk : No

    Pagefile Disk : No

    Hibernation File Disk : No

    Crashdump Disk : No

    Clustered Disk : No

    DISKPART> attributes disk clear readonly

    Disk attributes cleared successfully.

    DISKPART> attributes disk

    Current Read-only State : Yes

    Read-only : No

    Boot Disk : No

    Pagefile Disk : No

    Hibernation File Disk : No

    Crashdump Disk : No

    Clustered Disk : No

The windows drive error checking tool finds errors "Windows found errors on this drive that need to be repaired" but the and chkdsk can not check for bad sectors or repair drive because its write protected.

    C:\Windows\system32>chkdsk D: /f

The type of the file system is NTFS.

Windows cannot run disk checking on this volume because it is write protected.

    C:\Windows\system32> chkdsk D: /f /r /x

The type of the file system is NTFS.

Windows cannot run disk checking on this volume because it is write protected.

    C:\Windows\system32>chkdsk D:/r

The type of the file system is NTFS.

Windows cannot run disk checking on this volume because it is write protected.

The suggestion to remove write protection via Registry Editor also appears to have no affect. This is an internal nvme so i dont think there is a physical write protection switch that I am missing. I am stuck in this loop of cant repair because write protected, cant remove write protection because drive needs to be repaired.

My D drive has been set to readonly, how to remove the write protection?

How to Remove Write-Protection from an OEM USB Drive?

I did all that. After I entered, "ATTRIBUTES DISK CLEAR READONLY", I didnt get a prompt stating that the write protect has been removed. But the command prompt stated that disk attributes cleared successfully.

But when I tried to format the USB drive I get a pop up window stating that its still write-protected. Do you have any other suggestions?
