  2. Windows 10 Infinite Reboot Loop - Dell Laptop

    For the past few days a Microsoft Windows update notification continuously popped up on screen.

    After a few days of ignoring it, I finally gave in and allowed the update to continue.

    After the update installed, A notification popped up saying the PC (laptop) would restart in 30 minutes.

    I let the computer sit assuming it would simply restart overnight (It is set to stay powered on while plugged in).

    In the morning I discovered my laptop was in an infinite reboot loop.

    When powered on (whether plugged in or on battery power), the laptop loads to the Dell logo screen. Next, a command prompt type window flashes briefly (too quick to even read), then a windows loading icon appears at the bottom of the screen, along with the
    following two system messages;

    "Attempting to recover installation"

    "Restoring your previous version of windows"

    Immediately after that (those messages essentially flash, then disappear), the screen shuts off, and laptop reboots, initiating this infinite loop again.

    I called Microsoft Support, who after 20 minutes on hold (due to their "systems running slowly" while researching the issue) had me try the following;

    1) Hold Power button, let laptop sit for 2 minutes, attempt to restart

    2) Hold Power button, remove battery, remove charger, let laptop sit for 2-3 minutes, reattach battery, attempt to restart

    Neither of these things solved my issue.

    I then made my way through the F12 Boot Setup options, and some other menu (I think F4) - I didn't find anything in those menus for starting in Safe Mode.

    The problem is still persisting, however now I don't get an option for F4 (or whatever) or F12 Boot Setup options. This is now a completely infinite restart loop with no ability to open any boot options, and no way of stopping, pausing, or slowing down the
    loop.

    They suggested I get a fresh install of Windows 10 - however my understanding is that I will lose my Microsoft Office suite, subscription antivirus software, and all important files I have saved on this laptop.

    Open to any suggestions or feedback, PLEASE HELP!

    Windows 11 Infinite Black Screen Loop After Failed Windows 10 Reset

    Hi everyone,

    I am reaching out for assistance due to a challenging issue with my Windows 11 system, which is currently stuck in an infinite loop of a black screen with spinning circles. This issue arose unexpectedly after an attempt to reset my Windows 10 system on a separate disk failed, suggesting that the reset operation inadvertently impacted my primary Windows 11 system.

    Here's a detailed breakdown of the events leading to the current problem:

    • My setup includes two hard drives: Disk A with Windows 11 (my primary system) and Disk B with Windows 10.
    • I encountered a DLL file missing error on Windows 10 (Disk B) and after unsuccessful attempts to fix it through runtime library installations and the SFC command, I decided to reset the Windows 10 system via the settings, choosing to reset only the system disk to avoid affecting other drives. Unfortunately, the reset failed.
    • Subsequently, attempting to boot into Windows 11 on Disk A resulted in a blue screen error related to the NTFS file system on the first attempt, followed by an automatic repair on the second attempt. After the repair, the system now persistently shows a black screen with spinning circles, unable to proceed to the login screen.
    Additional details and steps taken:

    • Through the Troubleshoot options, I can access CMD and open Notepad, confirming that the disks are accessible.
    • I have created a Windows installation USB drive and attempted its repair functions without success.
    • My setup involves two monitors, with the BIOS and system defaulting to monitor A, but Windows set to display only on monitor B. Post-issue, the system disconnects from monitor A and attempts to load on monitor B, indicating partial loading of Windows configurations.
    It seems the reset attempt on Windows 10 has unexpectedly affected the Windows 11 system on the other disk. Given the steps I've already taken without success, I am seeking your expert advice on how to resolve this infinite loading issue and recover access to my Windows 11 system.

    Any suggestions, guidance, or recommended steps to troubleshoot and resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much for your time and assistance.
