    My Desktop Icons aren't displaying correctly none are missing


    Yesterday when I booted up my computer my icons were displaying the default icons instead of custom ones like steam games displaying a internet explorer icon instead of the game or programs showing the default .exe instead of the logo. When I restarted my computer it didn't fix the issues. I've tried refreshing the desktop but nothing seems to work and its making it rather difficult to do work and find what I'm looking for. I can't find a fix online because I don't know what to search for with google thinking I'm talking about missing icons. Please help.

    The native apps from the system are all showing this strange square instead of the normal icons. Please help resolve this problem. Thanks

    Hi,

    Thank you for posting your query at Microsoft community.

    Do the apps work fine apart form the icons not displaying correctly? If so I would suggest you to run an SFC scan and check if it helps. If the issue persists you may run DISM command and check.

    Follow this steps:


      • Press Windows+X.

      • Click on Command Prompt (Admin).

      • Type the command SFC /SCANNOW and
        DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth and hit
        Enter.

    Hi,

    In order for us to address your concern about the missing desktop icons, kindly answer the following questions first:

    • Have you made any recent changes to your computer system prior to getting this issue?
    • What is the current version and build of your Windows 10? To get these information follow these steps:

    • Press Windows key + R.
    • Once the Run box appears, type Winver.
    • Press Enter.
    • A small window will appear which will show these information.

    (You may need to update your Windows computer, please refer to this
    support link     to get information about Windows update history as well as how to update your device.)

    • Aside from doing the commands above, what are other troubleshooting steps have you taken for your missing desktop icons issue?
