Windows 10: My desktop keeps rearranging itself, and new folders snap to odd places. How can I stop that??

This is weird! I just started onedrive backup, and this is a new machine with a big slab of firmware and windows updates done, as well as manually loading 12 GB of files and folders. I recently put fast startup on-it was off.

Hello,

My desktop icons keep rearranging and windows explorer won't save the position I put them in.

I can rearrange them but when I click 'Refresh' or if I restart explorer or if I reboot they rearrange to another setup. This happens in both normal mode and safe mode.

I have tried all the solutions available on the internet with no luck, including the obvious ones (trying all the auto-arrange and grid options) and even some more complex ones (sfc, registry tweaks).

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Let's sort out this odd behavior. You might be experiencing this issue because
the Auto arrange icons option is enabled, or you are changing the screen resolution causing the icons to be rearranged. Let's disable
Auto arrange icons and Align icons to grid, and check if you will continue to experience this problem.Here's how:

• Right-click on an empty space on your desktop.
• Select View.
• Select Auto arrange icons to uncheck it.
• Select Align icons to grid to uncheck it.

This worked for me:
*right click on a blank space on the desktop
*the pop-up box shows "AMD Catalyst Control Center" first
*left click on that.
*sit back and wait a couple of minutes until the hour glass stops popping up.
*problem solved. (at least for me.)
