  1. My desktop windows computer KEEPS changing the time for no good reason

Every time I turn on my computer, the time is very randomly set on my device. This morning I turned on my computer and it said the time was 23:48 when the time was actually 10:12 so the time is not just changing by whole hours but also by minutes.

Sometimes it does the reverse and DOESN'T change while I'm using my computer. Yesterday I was waiting for the Samsung Unpacked event and decided to browse Reddit around 30 minutes before it started. (the time said 19:30, and the even started at 20:00). After about 45 minutes I look down on my clock and it says 19:38 or something like that which I found to be very annoying (first-world problems, I know)

Whenever I turn on my computer it does this and I ALWAYS click on the settings and disable "set time automatically" but whenever I turn on my computer again, Windows have turned on "set time automatically" and I have absolutely no idea why this is happening or how to stop it.

Below is a screenshot of the setting I keep turning off whenever I turn on my computer

I also own a Surface Book which this has NEVER happened to before. I recently reset both my laptop and desktop and this has been an ongoing issue ONLY on my desktop since then... Help!

  2. Time change

    Hi Tina,

Misconfigured Windows settings could be a possible cause why your computer keeps on displaying incorrect time. For us to provide an accurate solution, we would need you to answer the following questions:

    • Which build, version and edition of Windows is installed on your computer?
    • What changes have you made to your computer before this issue occurred?

For initial troubleshooting, we suggest changing the startup type of Windows Time service. Follow these steps to do so:

    • Set the correct time on your computer.
    • Using Cortana, type services.msc.
    • Select Services (Desktop app) from the search results.

  3. icons on desktop keep changing

    Hello Norman,

As you are facing issues with desktop icons changing the color on Windows 10 we will help you with this issue.

Do let us know if you have made any changes to the operating system prior to this issue that might have resulted in this?

Try the below troubleshooting steps and check if it helps.

Step 1: I suggest you to Run SFC scan.

System File Checker is a utility in Windows that allows users to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files. If a
Windows Resource Protection (WRP) file is missing or is corrupted, Windows may not behave as expected.

    Follow the below steps:

    • Right click on the Start button, click on
      Command Prompt (Admin).

    • Type “sfc /scannow” without the quotes and hit
      Enter.

    • After the scan, restart the computer and check for the issue.

Step 2: I suggest you to un full system virus scan and check.

    Microsoft Safety Scanner

Note: Data or files which are infected by malware might be beyond cleaning and have to be deleted entirely to maintain the integrity of your system, which means there might be a potential for data loss.

Step 3: I recommend you to install all the pending updates on your device and check if it helps.

    Steps:

    • Connect to the internet.
    • Press Windows key and type updates.
    • Click on Check for updates.
    • Under Windows Updates, click on Check for updates.
    • Try to install the updates being shown.

Hope it helps. Get back to us with an updated status of this issue for further assistance.

    Thank you.
