  2. Failure to apply update due to recovery partition issue?

    My suggestion would be to:

    1) Disable WinRE

    2) Delete partitions 4 and 5.

    3) Extend the C drive to utilize the unallocated space (minus 750 MB)

    4) Create a Recovery partition in that 750 MB unallocated space.

    Step 1:

    *******

    To disable WinRE, run:

    • reagentc /disable

Next, check if winre.wim has been moved to the c:\windows\system32\Recovery folder. To do so, run:

    • dir c:\windows\system32\Recovery /a

    Please post the outputs.

    Windows 10 Recovery Disk

Thanks for the help. But thats actually what I did, and I am using the hard disk and partition corresponding to the C drive (the one containing my system).

I should add that disk management (what you suggested above) shows it to be the 3rd partition (starting counting at 1), but "list part" under diskpart shows it to be partition 4, with 3 being a 16M reserved partition that doesn't show under disk management.
Just to be safe, I also tried reagentc with partition 4, but that gives:

REAGENTC.EXT: The specified path was not found

Interestingly, the recovery image location it set as a result of the setosimage (see my original message for exact command) sets it to partition 4. Note the command only gave a path as C:\... with no explicit partition number.

Just to make sure, I also tried everything with the recovery partition, but with the same results.

My Disk 1 C Drive is showing 3 Recovery Partitions.

KB5034441 recovery partition on system partition?

This is not your average KB5028997 situation.

The recovery partition is actually System-reserviert.

Leave System-reserviert alone and create a genuine recovery partition after drive C. Shrink drive C by 1 GB in disk management. Then run

    • diskpart
    • select disk 1
    • create partition primary
    • format quick fs=ntfs label=”Wiederherstellung”
    • set id=27
    • exit
    • reagentc /disable
    • reagentc /enable

    Install KB5034441.
