Windows 10: My disk drive failed an I cannot recover my Windows 10 key

Hi the subject line says it all.

I should have 2 windows 10 installs associated with my account

One which I use every day that is on a HP laptop which is my work machine.


The second one was on my gaming machine which I havent used in a while.

I went to transfer the system from my old machine to a new motherboard and graphics card and discovered the drive had died.


The original install on that machine was a Windows 7 install. I upgraded to Windows 10 when it came out.

I used the gaming machine until sometime last year.


I want to do a new install on my new hardware, how can I get my windows 10 license back, or replacement.

Recover files from Flash drive

Does not work on a windows pc which is what the OP probably intended

windows by default does not have HFS and HFS+ based hard drives.
Able to perform retrieval on both HFS and HFS+ based hard drives. and so will not work with windows

Recovering Local Disk

It could be a compatibility issue with the latest update and your local disk. We suggest updating your disk driver. Follow these steps:

• On the Start, type Device Manager.
• Locate and select Disk drives.
• Right-click on your disk drive, select Properties.
• Go to the Driver tab and choose Update Driver.
• Once done, click OK.
