My DVD-RW no longer be usable after erasing the disc

Hello,So last night I just found a DVD-RW and I did the "erase the disc". After that, I clicked on the drive, and it said how I wanted to use my DVD. I clicked the "Like USB Flash Drive". And it was formatting. After the format bar was full, it said that Windows cannot complete the format. And I was confused, was it because I did the "Erase the disc"? Before I did that I could view the files in it. After doing the "Erase the disc", the DVD-RW was super slow. I couldn't even burn files into it. Can anybody help me please?Thank you

    :)

    Unable to Erase RW DVD!

A game CD is not a (RW = RE-Write). They are usually always -R.

You can not just erase or format CD/DVD discs.

-R and +R and not erasable disks

-R means you can burn to it only 1 time.

+R means you can only add more content to the disc at a later time. With the exception it is not a Video DVD or Video CD or Windows install media and similar or is copy write protected.

-RW means you can burn to it 1 time and then if the situation meets the criteria, you can erase the disk and re-use it.

+RW means you can add to it many times, by the criteria mentioned above. And then you can also erase or format it and re-use it

    DVD+RW Discs Not Currently Recognized

"My own DVD+RW and DVD+R TDK discs are not recognized/readable. Sometimes I receive the "Please insert a disk into DVD RW Drive (DMy DVD-RW no longer be usable after erasing the disc :)." or the "Windows can't read the disc in drive D:" error message."

That is probably due to old stocks of discs, the materials used in RW media do age and become no longer erasable or reliably writable. ATIP info needs to be read for the writing strategy which is used by the burning application.

Dirty optics in the drive is another factor.

"a search for an updated driver using Device Manager>Properties>Update Driver reports that "Windows has determined that the best driver for this device is already installed."

It is a standard Windows 10 driver "driver date" 21/06/2006 (logical UK format). "cdrom.sys". just the one file. If there is driver modifier file present, you may get problems.

    "Is there a settings in Win10 that enables/disables bi-directional writing to a DVD+RW disc?"

"When viewing Properties>Tools>Check of my DVD+RW drive, windows reports that, "The disk check could not be performed because Windows can't access the disk."

Windows must recognise the type of disc and read the ATIP info. That requires fresh new stocks of reputable discs and clean optics to be sure.

"I am attempting to make use of some TDK DVD+RW discs (e.g., as if they are USB thumb drives). I want to be able to revise the file content and then write-over the existing stored file that is on the DVD+RW disc. IOW, use the DVD+RW disc as a RAM."

Whilst you can use packet writing to simulate sectored media it has proven to be rather unreliable. So much so that I stopped doing that 15 years ago.

With RW type of discs I just erase the whole disk and write it again. I don't use multi-session as it makes for more complex table of contents and a reduction in disk capacity.

The re-writability also disappears with age, they fail to erase after maybe 10 years or so.

That means buying new stocks of discs and re-writing all discs every few years to ensure a degree of reliability.

"I have several important files (mostly documents, spreadsheets, etc.) that I want to store on a rewritable DVD."

In a few words, just no, on the grounds of reliability it is a bad idea.

  4. My DVD-RW no longer be usable after erasing the disc

DVD+RW not working after incorrect erase

I'll spare you the details, so basically I was erasing a dvd+rw disc in my drive, however my power flickered which turned off the pc mid-erase. Now when i try to do anything, nothing happens. I put it in my drive, and it detects no disc. I've tried my other external drive and the same issue happens. It worked perfectly fine before this. When i look at the back of the disc, it has burn color, but just a random line of non-burned color in the middle. Is it recoverable or is it time to junk it?

shorter version : erasing dvd+rw, pc shut off, dvd not erase correctly, dvd not work anymore.
