Windows 10: My Epson FF-680W will NOT work on windows 11

I purchased an Epson FF-680W scanner a "few years ago". Recently I needed to upgrade my computer and it came with Windows 11 installed. My Epson scanner will not work or even be recognized. What can be done? The scanner cost about as much as my computer.

Epson ff-680w scanner can't see folders

For some reason, the Epson Fast Foto (ff-680w) scanner software can no longer see any option other than my desktop as a location to view or store photos. This was not the case before today. Not sure what changed and why it doesn't work. I have made sure folders are shared, running the software as administrator, etc and nothing.

Not sure what would have changed this, as it was working properly before to see both system hard disk files as well as a removable hard drive. Now only the desktop is showing as an option. I have tried Epson support and everything they have tried isn't working, including un-installing and re-installing software, deleting config files from app data, and whatever else they had me try. Still no luck.

Check Epson's website for any available driver updates specifically for Windows 11. Epson may have released a new driver that is compatible with the new operating system.

Try downloading and installing the driver for Windows 10. Even if there is no specific driver for Windows 11, the Windows 10 driver may still work with the new operating system.

If the above steps do not work, try using the built-in Windows printer driver. In some cases, Windows may have a generic printer driver that can be used with your Epson SX415 printer.

Epson 4990 Photo - Epson Scan Windows 11

The following is a fix for Epson Scan software not being recognized in Windows 11. This is working for me.

Below steps derived from “The Geek Page”, dated January 28, 2022 By Saurav Dey.



Step#1: In the search box, type Run and select it from the search results.

Step#2: In the Run dialog box, type services.msc and click OK.

Step#3: The Services window will open. Scroll down and locate Windows Image Acquisition or WIA.

Step#4: Make a right-click on the WIA and select Properties from the drop menu.

Step#5: In the WIA panel, click on the Log On tab.

Step#6: Under the Log On tab, select the Local System Account option. Check the box beside Allow Service to Interact with Desktop and click Apply to proceed.

Step#7, restart the Service then restart the computer. Epson Scan should now work.

Additional note: When Epson Scan starts if the “Preview” & “Scan” buttons are not visible then click once anywhere in the left hand panel & then press the keyboard “Alt” key. The buttons should now appear. (this part is from Epson support).
