My ext optical drive is using DVD-RW's and being messaged that it is write protected.

Have researched this issue and none of the suggested fixes have worked. I cannot access the permissions area and so cannot correct it,that way. Attempted to correct in regedit and nothing. This is all making me so frustrated. I've always thought that I had some knowledge of computer stuff, WRONG. So I am unable to use my external optical drive for win 10. I did try to go to command prompt and enter diskpart. That doesn't appear to be working for me.Just so utterly frustrated. Not to mention, my previous question for help with downloading and setting up media creation tool. What else can go

    :)

  2. DVD RW CD Optical Drive Error Message

You state you have tried to format a DVD RW CD.

What are you trying to change it to ?

If this is NEW and out of the box you should not have to format it.

It is already ready to write / burn to.

If you are erasing the RW that may be a different story.
