    my external device seems to be connecting to my computer but it is not being shown as a drive that can be used. Is there something I can do to make it show up?

    External Disk Devices once formated in Windows 10 are no longer shown on the computer.

    I have formatted 2 different external disk drives in Windows 10. For one or two times I was able to access these external drives to use for backup. Then one day neither drive was available for access on my computer. I tried to reconnect each drive to
    one of the 4 additional USB ports on my computer. Still the same problem. My external disk drives are shown in Device Manager and in Connected Devices, but not shown in Devices and drives in This PC nor in Disk Management. I went to each respective vendor
    for support- reloaded their software and still the drives were not shown.

    Regarding Connection of external hard disk

    My device i.e. the external hdd is SEGATE BACKUP PLUS SLIM

    No error message or error code was shown

    i am able to use the hdd on other computers. I can even use other devices on my computer

    These did not help me solving my

    Update Assistant does not detect External Storage Device

    I am currently facing an issue with the update assistant. The problem comes from the prompt as seen from this webpage

    Free up space for Windows updates - Microsoft Support

    The issue is in "Step 2: Connect an external storage device". It says to
    "Connect your external storage device and wait until you see it in the drop-down list" but the external storage device already connected to my device (and shows up on My PC) is not shown on the drop down list. Can you help?
