Windows 10: My external display now blank/black after latest Windows Update.

I have an Asus GM501GM laptop with an external GMaster 165Hz gaming monitor connected via DP into a USB-C to DP connecter. This has been working fine for months since this issue was once resolved by an update to an update.



My display is detected just fine, but the display is blank/black. The external monitor was set as my primary display, so trying to change settings in display settings once connected is problematic, to say the least.



I have tried uninstalling the updates, rebooting a number of times with various other USB devices connected or not connected. Updated my display drivers and even tried the WIN+CTRL+Shift+B troubleshooting step.



I am wondering if anyone else has come across this issue or if there is a simple fix for it that I have overlooked. I would rather not Reset the PC or reinstall Windows if I can avoid it.

External monitor blanking often

Hi,

Please answer these questions to assist you better.

• What is the make and model of your computer and external monitor?
• Have you installed all pending Windows and driver updates?
• Do you get any error message?

I suggest you to install all pending Windows updates in your PC and also update Display drivers. Follow the steps below.

Step 1: I would suggest you to check and install any latest Windows Updates available.

• Go to Start and then Settings.
• Click on Update and Recovery.
• Check for updates under
  Windows Updates.
• Restart the system and check if the issue is resolved.

Built in display blank, upgrade 8.1 to 10, External display through HDMI works well.

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to proceed with a blank screen. I am using Acer Aspire E1-571, after updating to windows 10 from windows 8.1 all worked well for 3 weeks. After that restart screen comes on as blue/black in color but nothing
else. No pointer, no curser, no windows. When HDMI is connected the display works as normal on external display.

• When the screen was blank, were you able to see the cursor on the screen?
  
• Did you get any error code or error message?
