Windows 10: my external dvd/cd player only plays dvds and does not recognise cds

Currys technical support found my new Sandstrom dvd/cd player would play dvds but not cds and said it was a software problem after testing on an old windows 10 computer and told me to contact you saying it was a software problem that you could help with. I look forward to hearing how I may get it to work so I can play cds, but m,ost important to me receive music by file on email and burn cds on my sandstrom if thius can be made possible. Thank you for any help you can give.

After installing Windows 10 upgrade my internal DVD/CD drive is not recognised but my USB external hard drive is, does anyone know how do I fix this problem?
