Windows 10: My external hard drive is recognized by my laptop, but I cannot access any of the files on...

I'm using windows 10, the drive is SP Armor A30.

• I've tried uninstall, and several other online techniques. I even tried to open it but the screws were too tight.
• I've used Recuva and it did nothing. I've ran recovery program and it came back with an error . Error Checking result: There was a problem repairing this drive - error message
• Got this in the events section reinstalling: Device USBSTOR\Disk&Ven_PHD_3.0&Prod_Silicon-Power&Rev_0\160029030142100000A2&0 was not migrated due to partial or ambiguous match.
• I optimized it and one file shows up in the folder: test.dat I changed the drive letter.
• I did some other thing and these files are displayed: DG1__DS_VOL_HDR and DG1__DS_DIR_HDR

I have over 600 GB of files and can't access any. I've spent over 8 hours online and trying things. Is there any way this can be fixed?

Can't access files on external hard drive

External hard drive has been working on this Windows 7 laptop. Now it is recognized in "Devices and Printers" but Windows Explorer does not see the drive, so I can't access the files.

Is there a fix?

#1) I have tested the external drives in three different computers, win10 pro, Win10, and XP. The results are identical. When I plug in the external hard drive windows signals a new device with an audio signal and the light comes on on the external drive. The results on all three pc's is identical in disk manager, file explorer and device manager.
#2) I have tried all solutions presented to me by FreeBooter, from the simplest solution of uninstalling the external drive in device manager and rebooting windows, to using the various third party software that was suggested, obviously with out success.
#3) The attached screen shots will only show one of the drives attached because I don't have enough free USB ports to attach two drives and I didn't think it would have been a good idea to use a hub.
#4) one strange thing about one of the drives is that now device manager lists it as a Toshiba drive although it is a Western Digital.
#5) Sorry but I have no way of getting a photo of BIOS

Hi John,

We suggest that you try the troubleshooting steps below:

• Open your External Hard Drive file in File Explorer.
• Type the name of the file you want to search on the search box and click Enter.

The file will show up in Search Results and you will be able to move it to the correct folder.
