Windows 10: my file history is off I can't turn it on. no usable drives were found.

my action center keeps running maintenance. it leads me to my control panel home where it tellks me my file history is off. i dont know how long it has been off but i have noticed that some of my files are missing. it doesnt let me turn on my file history and it says no usable drives were found to copy files to. what can i do?

To address your concern, we suggest that you turn off File history then add the drive again.


To turn off File History, please follow these steps:

• Click the Start​ button, select Settings.
  Click Update & security.
• Choose Backupand click More options.
• See advanced settings, then click the Turn off button.
  

Restart the system then turn back on File History and add the drive.

If the issue persist, run the System File Checker tool. System File Checker
scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files.

Thanks for the suggestions.

The turn off button was greyed out and was unresponsive.

I had been advised to run the system file checker several time and found no problems.

In the meantime my machine has been returned to the suppler for a factory reset and is working again.

 

How to stop File History on the old drive and start File History on a new drive?

I use the external drive
for File History and have a lot of information there. I want to restart the File History process on a new drive and place the previous File History drive off-site.

Please suggest the steps to stop File History on the old drive and start File History on a new drive.
