    I'm familiar with Windows 10 and older recognizing folders that are all MP3 files as Music under Properties -> Customize tab. Windows used to do this automatically, but does not seem to do it any longer in Window 11. Folders appear as General items now. I see a lot of posts on the Internet asking how to reverse this, how to stop Windows from showing Music content as General items. But I don't see anyone asking how to ensure folders and subfolders appear as Music, which is my question. Stranger, if I turn on Libraries and add my music folders to the Music Library and then navigate to the f

    Hi Martin

    I am Dave, I will help you with this.

    it is not possible to see all folders in Windows to the 'General Items' folder type.

    Open any folder, then in the top menu set View to your preferred view, and if that is Details, set your preferred columns

    On the top menu, click the 3 dots and choose Options.

    On the Appearance tab in the resulting dialog, click 'Apply to folders'.

    This sets this view to be listed in all folders of that type.

    In Windows, folders are set to one of 5 types: Pictures, Documents, Music, videos, and General Items.

    If you perform the steps in Number 1 above for a folder of each type, the View will be set to your preference for all folders on your computer.

    File Explorer displays MP3 details, NOT File Details. How to switch ?

    Welcome to TenForums @Arealperson

    File Explorer automatically selects a view for the folder based on it's contents. If it contains mp3 files it will be the Music view.

    You can change this. Take one step up so that you see the folder containing your mp3s. Right-click on the folder and select Properties. On the Customise tab under 'Optimise this folder for:' select General items.


    Edit: you can also customise the view of the folder you are in by right-clicking on an empty space within the folder. See this tutorial.
