Windows 10: My G key doesn't work Laptop keyboard unless I use capital G.

I'm pretty sure this is a software issue, but I'm at the end of my rope.- my "G" key often doesn't work 95% of the time, unless I hold SHIFT at the same time for a capital G, then it works 100% of the time- it also works 100% of the time to open Windows Game Bar WINDOWS+G, so I know the key itself is not faultyTroubleshootinG I've tried:- updatinG drives it told me there was no update available- uninstallinG drivers I tried only the PS/2 one, and later also all of the ones labeled HID, which I have no clue about what they do and then restartinG the computer the very first time I did t

Keyboard will not recognize capital 'g'

Okay, so just the other day I noticed that my keyboard will not recognize when I try to capitalize the letter 'g'. I'm on a laptop currently (not sure the model but it's got the built in keyboard) and it's getting to be pretty frustrating.

I don't think that it's my shift keys because I can capitalize literally every other letter and use special characters. It's just that one key. I can get a capital 'g' when I use caps lock, it's just when I try to use shift with 'g' in order to capitalize a name it decides it doesn't want to work.

I've tried using the keyboard troubleshooter and it just told me that my keyboard is perfectly fine. I've tried testing to see if it will capitalize on other platforms because I thought it was just a google docs thing but it's consistent through my WHOLE laptop.

Please help, I'm getting so frustrated.

 

Odd "g" key behavior on Windows 10

I have had the same problem on a desktop PC and it is definitely Game Mode that is the culprit. It seems that the hooks you have put in to capture the Win+G key for Game Mode are not working properly and interfere with normal operation of the G key (lower
case).

I have found that holding shift and pressing G gives me a capital G, but lower case does not work unless faffing around with Win+G as suggested by OP.

Strangely I have a fully up-to-date i7 laptop that does not have any trace of Xbox, nor game mode.

Why has windows 10 hijacked the G key for a Game Mode that I will never use? Tell me how to completely remove game mode and anything to do with Xbox.

Do you have Nvidia graphics on your PC?

If you do, open Nvidia Experience, find the Game Overlay setting and disable that, then restart (not shut down) your PC and check if the capital G is working correctly.
