Windows 10: My goal - on a laptop that is already deployed, I want to reset all printing functions to...

My boss has a Dell laptop, and a very old Dell color printer 5130cdn printer. The printer is not supported in Windows 10. I found some articles on the internet to monkey with the registry to get the old Dell printer working. After the fact, I installed a Xerox Altalink C8045 network printer. The printers work fine printing to them. The problem lies in that after the install of the Xerox, within 30 minutes........the pc starts getting an "out of memory" error. Close the error and it comes back often with less time in between. Remove the Xerox printer and the error is gone for good. I deployed several of these Dell 5591 laptops on that day, but only my boss has the old Dell 5130, and also the only one I messed in the registry. Sad note is, I cannot find the article on the internet any longer as to what I changed to make that printer work. All the other Dell 5591 laptops have no issue with the Xerox Altalink C8045 printer..........but once again, do not have the old Dell 5130 installed.


I was thinking if there was a way to reset all printing functionality back to default, it might fix the registry and allow me to install the Xerox with no issues for my boss.



NOTE - I did turn off all notifications from the Xerox, but the error still comes. I did run the chkdsk and also the file system checker. Any help would be so much appreciated. I hate to rebuild the pc for this one issue.

Somewhere along the way I lost my context menu print function

Hi, have you ever used any tool such as Shellexview (free) to disable context menu entries?

Try downloading and installing and running that and see if you see a list of entries listed as disabled.

Print is a default Windows item, so if lost suggests some sort of corruption may have occurred.

As a matter of course, try running
chkdsk c: /scan
and then if ok
SFC /SCANNOW
- both from an admin command or powershell prompt and post the result.

What is your Windows build?
Windows key + R, winver

 

Multiple Issues After Resetting Laptop


Hi,

I recently reset my laptop and since then I've been experiencing a whole host of issues:

• Windows search bar doesn't work
• Shop app won't open
• Won't allow me to change location settings
• Clock/calendar on my toolbar is unresponsive when I click on it

Any ideas what the problem might be, please? Advice / suggestions are very much appreciated!
