  2. Google Chrome closes 1 second after opening (nothing works)

Hello! I'm Cristiano, an Independent Advisor. I'm here to help.

It sounds like you've already tried some troubleshooting steps, but let's see if we can narrow down the issue and find a solution.

First, let's try a few basic steps:

    1. Check if there are any pending Windows updates and install them.

    2. Restart the computer and try opening Google Chrome again.

    3. Check for any malware or viruses on the computer using a trusted antivirus software.

    4. Disable any third-party antivirus software temporarily and see if that resolves the issue.

    5. Try opening Google Chrome in Incognito mode by pressing Ctrl+Shift+N and see if it stays open.

If the above steps don't work, try these steps:

    1. Clear the cache and cookies in Google Chrome.

    2. Disable any extensions in Google Chrome and see if that resolves the issue.

    3. Try creating a new user profile in Google Chrome and see if the issue persists.

    4. Run the Chrome Cleanup Tool to remove any unwanted programs or software that may be interfering with Chrome's operation.

    5. Try uninstalling and reinstalling Google Chrome again, but make sure to delete any leftover files and folders in the following directories: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome" and "C:\Users%username%\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome".

If the above steps still don't work, you may need to consider using a different web browser or seek help from a professional technician.

    I hope this was helpful.

  3. can not open google chrome

    Hi

    Welcome to Microsoft community.

I understand that you're having trouble with Google Chrome on your Microsoft Surface laptop. Here are a few troubleshooting steps that might help:

    1. Restart Your Laptop: The first thing to try is a simple restart of your laptop, if you haven't done so already.
    2. Update Google Chrome: If you can open Google Chrome, click the three dots in the top right corner > Help > About Google Chrome. This will automatically check for updates.
    3. Reinstall Google Chrome: If updating doesn't work or you can't open Chrome at all, try uninstalling and then reinstalling it.
      • To uninstall: Go to Start Menu > Settings > Apps & Features > Find and select 'Google Chrome' from the list of installed applications > Click 'Uninstall'.
      • After successfully uninstalling, download a fresh copy of Google Chrome from www.google.com/chrome/ and install it.

Thoroughly research any product advertised on the site before you decide to download and install it.
    4. Check for Conflicting Software: Some software on your computer can conflict with Google Chrome and cause it not to work properly.
      • To check this: Open chrome (if possible) and type

        chrome://conflicts

into the address bar and press Enter.
    5. Create a New User Profile: Sometimes user profiles become corrupted which may prevent chrome from opening.
      • You can create a new user profile by closing all Chrome windows, navigating to

        C:\Users\<Your Username>\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\

rename "Default" folder to something else like "Backup Default". Then reopen Chrome which will automatically create a new "Default" folder (this process will reset all settings).
Please feel free to let me know if you have any further updates, thanks.

    Best regards

  4. my google chrome opens and then closes within 5 seconds. Please help.

    can't close googel chrome ???

There is a setting in Google Chrome that allows it to continue running various tasks in the background after you have closed the browser window. If this is allowed in your Google Chrome settings, then it can indeed be running even when there is no visible
window. Personally, I don't allow Google Chrome to continue running in the background/ But that is for you to decide. To solve your immediate problem though, I suggest you turn off (don't allow) this option at least temporarily:

    1. Start Google Chrome. There should of course be a visible browser window.
    2. Access the Google Chrome menu by clicking on the three dots at the top right corner of the browser window (it's just below the standard Microsoft icons to minimize maximize and close the window).
    3. Select "Settings" from that menu. Some basic Google Chrome settings should be displayed in the browser.
    4. Go to the bottom of the "Basic Settings" page and click on "Advanced".
    5. Locate the "System" group within the "Advanced Settings". Its near the bottom of this second settings page.
    6. One of the "System" settings is "Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed".

Turn this option OFF by sliding its little button to the left.
    7. Close the Google Chrome browser.
There should now be no complaints about Google Chrome still running when you think it isn't.

If you would like to re-enable this feature later, just follow the same 7 Step procedure above.

Of course to re-enable the feature, replace "Turn this option OFF" in Step 6 with "Turn this option
    ON
    ".

    I hope this helps.
