Windows 10: my harddrive shown as not initialized on disk management

hard drive when plugged via usb it gives clucking code sound western digital WXP1E21MTF34 as attached, it clucks 9 times then 3 times then 3 times again then nothing! how can i get windows to recognize the harddrive given that it didn't shown any signs of it being about to fail as all health check software gave green signs

Hi Keith,

Thanks for providing the detail that was requested previously. Since the disk management screen that you saw is showing greyed out options, we suggest that you follow the steps below to change the partition type of your internal drive:

• Open Disk Management then right click the partition on the disk you want to covert and select Delete Volume.
• Once you complete the process you will see the whole disk shown as two separate unallocated spaces. Right-click the disk and select Convert to GPT disk.

After the conversion, you will be able to use the whole disk and then you can create new separate partitions.

disk management - initialize - the device is not ready

trying to format a 1 TB SATA harddrive. In disk management, "Disk 1" is unknown with a tiny red downward facing arrow. Right click, initialize, I select MBR and I get the message "the device is not ready."

Now what do I try?
