Windows 10: my headset microphone isn't recognized by windows when hours before it was working with no...

my headset microphone isn't being recognized by windows at all. Windows recognizes my headset and audio output works but it doesn't recognized the input device at all. I've tried all the steps like going though to the control panel, going though the device manager, and going through settings. All of my drivers are up to date and there is no reason why it shouldn't recognize my headset. I also tested my headset on other devices and the microphone worked just fine.

Apple Headset/Microphone not working

Windows 10, have 3 Apple headsets. I can hear audio just fine but the microphone isn't recognized at all. I tried this on multiple laptops and while the audio is fine, I cannot get the microphones to work. It's the Apple wired earbuds. Windows isn't even recognizing that the microphone is there, it keeps defaulting to Realtek microphone on the laptop. I can't find drivers for this headset. I even spent three hours with Apple trying to troubleshoot and they FedEx'd me three brand new headsets. Well seems the issue persists even on the three new items. Any ideas. Even my IT guys at work can't figure out how to fix it.

This is what i see in device manager. Im not sure if the Speakers/Headphones (Realtek High Definition Audio) is the one your saying to disable, as that is what is default in playback devices in the sounds panel.

Setting Stereo Mix as the default recording device and disabling everything else still didnt get the mic working, even when the headset is plugged into the microphone only audio port or the mic + sound audio port.

And i think i just worked it out. I went into the alienware audio program. I was looking around for microphone related stuff and stumbled across this in advanced:




The check box at the bottom was not checked, so it was not asking me anything when plugging in my headset. when i clicked on the port that was not grayed out, this appeared:





And once i chose headset (with microphone) and tested it out in some of my programs that i can use voice in, it was working.
