    My .heic files either won't open or if they do open are extremely low resolution


    I have Windows 10 ver 1909 with the HEIF package installed from the Store. Most of my .heic files will Preview in Explorer some won't and those that will open in the Photos app only display in extremely low resolution.


    Any help is appreciated.

    Why are my HEIC files low resolution?

    When I tried to open a HEIC file in Windows 10 build 1903, I was told I needed a new codec from Microsoft. After installation the pictures came out with unacceptably low resolution.

    We understand your concern as you are unable to open the HEIC files in Windows 0 1903 build.



    In this scenario, we would suggest you to install
    HEIF Image Extensions     from Microsoft Store.



    The HEIF Image Extension enables Windows 10 devices to read and write files that use the High Efficiency Image File (HEIF) format. Such files can have a .heic or .heif file extension.

    Simply, HOW? I got the DDS plugin but the POS wont open DDS files still. Can someone give me a step-by-step rundown of how to install the DDS plugin for gimp so I know if I'm missing something?
