Windows 10: My HP Laptop says my built-in microphone is not plugged in

I have troubleshooted this issue and it says that I need to "plug-in" my BUILT in microphone. What are the next steps?

I understand you are not able to use the built in microphone when an earplug is plugged in. this issue occurs when the microphone is not configured properly. I suggest you to configure the microphone on the system and check if it helps to resolve the
issue.

Steps:-

1. Right click on the Start icon and select Control Panel.

2. Go to Sound.

3. Under Recording tab click on
Configure.

4. Select and set up microphone

5. Select Desktop Microphone.

6. Check if the issue is resolved.

I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it helps

Method 1: I suggest you to set microphone as default device and check.

• 
  Right click on the volume icon in the system tray and then click "Recording devices"
  
• 
  Right click on the blank space in the popped up window and then select "Show Disabled Devices" and "Show Disconnected Devices".
  
• 
  Right click on Microphone and then click "Enable".
  
• 
  Highlight the microphone and then choose "Set as Default Device".
  
• 
  Click Apply and OK.
  

Step 2: Make sure that the Microphone is not disabled.

  Make sure that the Microphone is not disabled. Follow the steps given to check that:
  
• 
  Right click on the volume icon and select “Recording devices”.
  
• 
  Now, Right Click on an empty space and select, “Show disconnected devices” and “Show disabled devices”.
  
• 
  Make sure that the Microphone is not disabled.
  

And also update the audio drivers from the manufacturer web site and install.

Built-in microphone doesn't work when I plug in headphones

Yes, my laptop only has one 3.5mm headphone jack that I plug my headphones into.





This is what shows up when I followed your instruction. I think I see my laptop's built-in microphone listed, but when I plug in my headphones, the microphone is totally silent. What do I do next? It seems like the microphone isn't disabled or anything,
it just happens that it is totally silent when I plug in my headphones.
