Windows 10: My iCloud account appears to have to be fixed on Windows,

Hi !I have a new computer with windows 11. I can't connect my iCloud account. When I try to do so I get a message stating that the acount needs fixing. The password is correct and I don't understand what has to be fixed. Therefore, no way to synchronize smartphone or iPad.

iCloud account settings

I had this problem too, and after 4 days of trying all sorts of fixes (ranging from changing firewall settings, reinstalling the Windows Mail app, applying different config settings), here's what worked for me.

My iCloud email is protected with Apple's two step verification, so I needed an 'app-specific password' to sign into an app that's not provided by Apple, like Windows Mail which doesn't support entering verification codes.

Here's the steps (I did this via my MS Surface Book laptop):

sign into Apple ID with your iCloud email and password:
https://appleid.apple.com/account/manage

if you're a two step verification user, your device (for me, my iPhone) will give you a verification code to enter after you put in your iCloud email password

in the 'Security' section, hit 'Edit'

in the 'App-Specific Passwords' section, hit 'Generate Password...'

enter a label for this password (I typed 'Windows 10 mail app')

hit 'Create'

an app-specific password will be created for you, in this format (case sensitive) tmah-jdbq-rdyy-gdes

copy the password and hit 'Done'

now open up Windows Mail > settings (cog icon) > manage accounts > select your iCloud account and enter your app-specific password then 'Save'

Your iCloud email should now start to appear

This should have worked but it did not. I followed your instructions except Apple would not let me login with my icloud email, saying I could not use an icloud email to access appleid then it switched me to the email address i
signed up with. I think this is why it did not work. It is the only thing I did that was different from instructions. Do you know of a way for me to use my icloud email with appleid? Thank you.

Windows 10 Email & Accounts does not allow management of iCloud Accounts

I understand that you cannot remove iCloud from Email and Accounts settings, and that apparently (even though you didn't say) it is not listed in WIndows 10 Mail settings which would explain why it appears there.

How exactly did you add iCloud so that it turns up in Email and Accounts? Did you add the iCloud app?

Can you right click on the listing to Disconnect first, so that it will release the account to be uninstalled there and wherever else you have installed in Windows 10 which you did not say.

It is important to know how exactly you added iCloud to Windows 10 to help you extricate it or fix it's sync. There are known issue with sync in iCloud in Windows 10 but these are for the iCloud app or program, not in Windows 10 Mail. Which are you using exactly?
