Windows 10: my keyboard is giving false keystrokes that are being held down. backspace backslash delete...

i have uninstalled drivers, checked for sticky/filter keys, reset the pc, check for stuck down keys, tested a different keyboard, unplugged extra usbs and tried different usb slots . nothing makes a difference i dont even know what else to try the problem persist thru every attempt to trouble shoot. when i tried a different keyboard it just switched what keys it said were held down from backspace and backslash to tab and caps lock. it seems to only affect the left and right side of the keyboard not the letter or number keys but it does it on all keyboards tested.

Keyboard Software - Deletes like iOS when backspace is held


Here's the typical, "sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong forum," part. I wasn't sure if it should go here or general, so please move it, if appropriate.

Anyone that has typed on iOS knows that if you a bunch of words typed and hold the backspace key, it initally deletes 1 character at a time, then as it is continued to be held, it continues deleting 1 character at a time, but it deletes more quickly. Ultimately, while still holding the backspace key, it starts to delete whole words, then more quickly until it starts deleting full sentences. I love the way that works. *Biggrin

My question is if there is any type of a software or tweak for Windows 10 that could mimic that. I know that if you hold ctrl+backspace in Windows, if will delete words at a time, but I really like the way iOS kind of escalates up through the backspaces.

Any ideas?

Ctrl + A + Backspace acting as home key

I think you lost a character in the question, about what shows up in Notepad.

When I tried Ctrl+A+Backspace in Notepad, I got the same results as pressing Ctrl-Backspace. (This did generate a character that looked like a thin, tall rectangle.)

I can suggest three approaches:

• Try altering your behavior. Use Ctrl-A and Delete, instead of Ctrl-A and Backspace.
  
• Try a different keyboard. (This may ultimately end up having the effect of altering your behavior a bit. Another possible effect is to eliminate ghosting issues that may occur when too much is pressed simultaneously on some keyboards. Although I'm suspecting that your current issue is unrelated to keyboard ghosting.)
  
• Use the downloaded software AutoHotkey to respond to Ctrl-Backspace by having it automatically press Ctrl-A and then either Backspace or Delete. Hopefully the software will be responsive enough to be able to complete its actions before Windows processes your next keystroke.
  

 

My backslash and my backspace switched, so now when i use backspace it does slash instead, any idea how to switch this?

My backspace and backslash swapped and i was wondering how to change this.
