Windows 10: my keyboard writes numbers instead of letters and the numpad doesn't work

hello i have a fujitsu H730recently i opened it for some cleaning and in order to open it i have to take the keyboard off itwhen i did that then installed it again i faced a problem which is the letters U I O J K L etc. gives numbers instead of letters and the numpad doesn't work at allwhen i turn off the numLock the problem is solved but the numpad still doesn't work at all i tried taking the keyboard of and install it again but the problem is still theretried installing a new windows in another ssd but the problem is still thereafter checking the button on the num pad now input the wrong fun

Since update numpad doesn't work properly anymore

On a HP Pavilion dv7 laptop, since a Windows10 update two days ago (version 1511, OS 10586.104), my numpad has gone nuts.

For example :

• key 2 writes 72, locks caps and opens a Bing search for "help with windows 10"
• key 3 writes *3wc
• key / writes /4 and triggers a menu for alternative screens
• etc...

Here is what I already attempted :

• uninstall and reinstall keyboard
• add an alternative language keyboard
• check "ease of access" options
• try the numpad in the BIOS : it works fine
• try the numpad in safe mode, now read this : it worked fine ! I restarted in normal mode and the keyboard worked fine also for a minute or so. Then it went crazy again. Now it doesn't work in safe mode anymore.

Keyboard typing numbers instead of letters

I understand you are having trouble with your keyboard which types numbers instead of letters. Let me help you with this.

I understand that you have tried the num lock key and it's the same outcome.

Have you tried to press Fn key + Num lock? If not, try it and see if it will fix the concern.

If still it will not fix the issue, follow this steps:

1.Press Windows Key + R then type osk and hit Enter to open On-Screen Keyboard.

2.Turn off Num Lock by clicking on it (If it is ON it will be shown in different color).

3.If you can’t see the Num lock then click on Options.

4.Checkmark “Turn on numeric key pad” and click OK.

5.This will enable the NumLock option and you could easily turn it off.

6.Reboot your PC to save changes.

Lastly, sometimes 3rd party software can conflict with Hardware such as Keyboard and can cause this issue. In order to Fix Keyboard Typing Numbers Instead of Letters issue, you need to perform a clean boot on your PC .

1. Press windows key + R, then type msconfig.

2. Select In General tab, select Selective Start up, put a check mark on load system services and unchecked "Load start up items".
