  1. My Laptop and Desktop are connecting to different versions of a Network

This is a very strange problem that has completely baffled me. I have a Laptop and a Desktop, both are running Windows 7. I live in an apartment complex that has it's own wifi, called LAB Guest. Only my Desktop says LAB Guest 5, and My Laptop says LAB Guest 3. At first I thought there was no difference, and at first there wasn't, but recently I've noticed LAB Guest 5 has a lot of security stuff enabled. I can't access a lot of sites, like streaming, adult, etc on that computer. For some reason though, on my laptop I can, and again, it says I'm connected to LAB Guest 3, not 5. My Laptop and Desk

  2. Connect desktop to laptop wirelessly?

Trigger911 - that confuses me. i am now sitting at the win xp i wish to connect to this network. things I have read say that i have to set every computer to a workgroup like this web page:

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/...mputers-running-different-versions-of-Windows

But I dont want to mess with the names of the homegroups I already have set up. On both my desktop and laptop (both win 7) they are set up as HOME Loactions.

Do they mean to tell me if i want to connect an xp to this network i cannot use Home locations? If i dont use Home locations.. The network wont work! On win 7, both computers told me I had to set the type of connection to Home Location before they could connect. So confused.

  3. Different Network Connection From the same Wi-Fi

    Hi,

Thank you for providing the details.

As mentioned above in your post, the Desktop is connected to the Ethernet
and Laptop is Connected to the Wi-Fi. It is not possible to connect to the same Wi-Fi networks. If both Desktop and Laptop are on Wi-Fi devices then you could try connecting it to the same Wi-Fi network.

    • Did you try the below step provided and what was the result?
I would suggest you to create a new HomeGroup and check if it helps.
    Refer: HomeGroup
    from start to finish

(Applies to Windows 10 as well)

Keep us posted to help you better.

  4. My Laptop and Desktop are connecting to different versions of a Network

    Connect desktop to laptop wirelessly?

I have an internet connection on both my laptop and desktop through the same router. I do not wish to screw that up. All I want to do is transfer files from the desktop to the laptop via the wireless connection. How do I do this? I have never set up any kind of network or lan before.. wired or otherwise.

I have read a bunch of post on the net but I am unsure the best way to do this. it's confusing to me as there seems to be lots of different opinions.
