Windows 10: My laptop can only output 720p on its 1080p screen

So I have an Acer Aspire 5 A515-51G laptop. The old screen for the laptop had a resolution of 1366×768. However, the screen broke and I needed a replacement.

I found a replacement IPS display that is 1920×1080 on sale, with an attractive price that is just slightly more expensive than the 720p one. I thought, since my laptop has Intel UHD graphics and an Nvidia MX130, 1080p on a previously 720p laptop wouldn't be much of a hassle, since it has powerful graphics. I guess I was wrong...

The thing is I'm not dissatisfied with my replacement screen. The offer was quite amazing, and the quality of the display is really great. I'm just upset that I couldnt take full advantage of the screen.

I tried fiddling around with the Windows Settings' display section and Intel's graphics control panel, but I have no luck finding an option. In Windows Settings the max is only 1366×768.

Is it a driver thing? Is it a hardware thing? Is my laptop not powerful enough to output 1080p? I really need an answer. Tried looking for it on the internet but I only got results about people outputting their screen to a TV.

I REALLY hope it is a software/driver thing so that the issue can be most likely solved. If it's a hardware thing, I might get a little upset. Either way, any form of help would be appreciated.

720P still outputs 1080P

Tried that in Extended Desktop mode. I set both display 1 and display to to 720. But the video tester confirmed the actual HDMI output was still 1080p.

I tried in Duplicate (mirror) mode ( 1|2) and even though the screen said 720p the actual output was 1080p.

Gave up as show time was approaching and used the Neo 1 tester as a format conversion device.

I realize the first matrix connected to this laptop was capable of 1080, but some of the other upstream equipment is not. When a user "requests" 720p the graphics system needs to respect that regardless of what HDMI thinks might be best.

I've attached an HDMI device which the Win 10 system detects. I need it to output 720P, which I select from the Display Settings. And I verify that I want to keep that. However, using a Neo 1 monitor, I see that the Win10 continues to output 1080P.

How do I make it output only 720p?
