My laptop cannot detect any external screen/monitor

    Hi everyone.

I have a MSI GS60 ghost pro gaming laptop which has Intel HD graphics 4600 and Nvidia GTX970M GPU, CPU i7 4720HQ, running Windows 10. I study abroad, several months ago i went back home and plugged-in my laptop to the TV via HDMI for gaming like normal. Yesterday i bought an ASUS VC239H external monitor and tried to do the same thing, but there is no HDMI input signal, the Laptop cannot detect the monitor (include display settings, intel HD graphics settings, nvidia settings). This is what i tried:

    - Fn+f2, Fn+f8 keys, windows P switching to duplicate or extend or anykind of options
    - plug the monitor into my friend's laptop with windows 8 through that HDMI cable and it works fine, the same with other laptop running windows 7==> cable and monitor are normal
    - plug my laptop to my neighbor's smart TV. There was ''connected' symbol which appears on the TV but black screen instead of image, Laptop couldn't detect the TV
    - reinstalling nvidia and onboard-graphics drivers and update to the latest
    - Made a clean install of windows, tried windows 8 also but the same result
    - Updated my BIOS and EC
    - Bought an adapter HDMI-Mini Displayport to use the mini displayport with HDMI cable

    nothing works

Im sorry that i copied my thread from other forum to here therefore some problem with the text color

    :)

Windows 10 and displaying content on two external monitors.

Windows 10 display options is not detecting both my external monitors. It detects the laptop and one of the external monitors. I need to display different screens of information on each external monitor. What do I need to do to get both external monitors
    recognized?

  3. External monitor for laptop

I have an external monitor connected to my laptop. It used to work fine. Since the latest Windows 10 upgrade, the computer cannot detect the external monitor.

My laptop cannot detect any external screen/monitor

Is there a setting in the BIOS that controls the use of the HDMI output - perhaps it has been inadvertently turned off.

Ok, but what about the Boot section? Is there anything to do with Power on Display. Some laptops have an LCD only setting and you would need to change it to Auto or something similar. I may be wrong, your BIOS might not have this feature.

Have you tried going into the BIOS with the HDMI screen plugged in, it just might force it into working. Other than that I guess you have some sort of conflict between the onboard graphics and the NVidia graphics, from your first post it looks like you have tried adjusting all the display properties but it might be worth checking to see if there is anything that will force the onboard graphics/LCD screen off.

Another thought - sometimes the detection of HDMI TV requires your laptop to have the right resolution and format setting. Usually this is automatically detected but it might not be in your case.

It is a simple monitor. I tried to change to a lower resolution but still no detection, maybe ill try several more then. What if i buy a DVI adapter to use a DVI cable, connected to display port or HDMI port. Do you think it will work?

In several times i unplug the hdmi cable from the laptop when it is still on, my gamepad (razer sabertooth) just becomes non-functioning and the x360 is just blinking. then it comes back on when i reconnect the power. Interesting

    a) bad cable, have you tried another ones? (ive noted gazillion times that different laptops put out different voltage out of the HDMI / DP-ports resulting problems like yours. its always been bad cable issue)
    b) dvi-d or dvi-i -> HDMI works, dvi-a doesnt

You saved my day batlhilz, i bought a DVI adapter and it works!!! finally!! The problem definitely comes from the HDMI cable, i tried soo many ways to fix this, even the manufacturer could not help me.
