Windows 10: My laptop doesn't shut down properly

Hello, so i have a Dell Inspiron 13 7000 (P57g001), i bought it back in April and in the last few weeks it started to freeze whenever i try to shut it down or put it to sleep or hibernate. It is clear that the OS (win 10) is closing all the programs but when it turns the screen off it hangs until it is drained completely of battery, I have to press down the power button so it shuts down and then turn it on again in the case I put it to sleep or hibernate.

My windows is fully updated, every driver is updated.

I already unchecked "Turn on fast start-up" because i read on the internet that it could help, but it didn't help me. Also, I disabled the option called "Turn of Hard-disk after a value of minutes".

Can anyone help me solve this problem please?

Laptop fails to shut down/restart/sleep after upgrading to Windows 10

Hey all,

After upgrading to the Windows 10 OS, my laptop does not shut down or go into sleep mode properly. When I go to shut down the computer, the screen just goes black and the power light stays on, then when I think it has shut down, my laptop is actually dead,
due to the fact that it doesn't shut down properly.

If anybody knows what to do or has any tips, that would be greatly appreciated.

Shut down problem

Since I have installed windows 10 in my dell inspiron 15 3542 laptop I am having problem in shut down.

my laptop doesn't get shutdown properly so I have to force shutdown it.

Please help me resolve this problem.

 

What version of Windows are you currently using? Pro or Home?

Please check if the following is enabled or disabled:

Change the policy to disabled if not already.

Woops, I was wrong, I thought that my laptop has the Pro version, it actually has the Home version. Maybe that's why i couldn't find any "secpol.msc"....

Do you know a solution for the Home version too?

There is always a way.













This should setting should work out for you. The virtual memory page file being cleared on shutdown can cause issues slowing down shut down and if it's corrupted potentially prolong it beyond normal.

Let me know what happens.

 

Thanks for the help but unfortunately it tells me again that it cannot find any "gpedit.smc" *Sad

 

secpol and gpedit only are available in Pro versions of Windows not Home.
Try doing a Clean Boot. If this works, add one startup item or service until the computer won't normally shut down, then you will know what the problem is.

 

Definitely what I would have suggested next *Smile . I haven't used the Home version of Windows 10 in such a long time, silly me I forgot what's included and not included in Administrative Tools.
