I have a new laptop with Windows 11. The power supply is via USB-C port. When using the laptop with a projector for a presentation, I noted that the laptop and then the projector would go into sleep mode within 30 seconds when I wasn't typing or clicking anything. The same problem happened with an external monitor in my office. In both cases, the laptop was connected to a power supply. I set the laptop's sleep mode settings to "never," but the problem persists. When I disconnected the power supply, the laptop stopped going into sleep mode. So I use a laptop and I am trying to connect a second monitor via HDMI and when I plug it in, it goes into sleep mode and I've tried going in display settings but changing stuff there doesn't seem to make a difference, any way to fix this?

 

Closing the lid of my laptop turns off my external monitor display 30 seconds later

When I close the lid of my laptop (LG Gram17) running Windows 11, the display of the external monitor I am using will go black, exactly 30 seconds after the lid is closed. My "Closing the lid" settings are both set to "Do Nothing" on battery and plugged in. It also occurs on a different monitor. The laptop doesn't appear to go to sleep as any music I'm playing continues to play through the external monitor's speakers. When I "waken" it, and to get the monitor back on, the monitor will then stay on until I finish using it. The process will start again once I leave the laptop for a while and come back to use it again. I've searched the web for a solution but found nothing relevant. Any suggestions please - it's very frustrating. Thanks!

 

Using 2nd Monitor with Laptop and Goes Into Sleep Mode

If your second monitor goes in to Sleep mode after connecting it to your laptop, it could be that some settings of the Power Options in Windows 10 are incorrectly configured. We recommend that you restore all power settings to default and see if the second
monitor still goes to Sleep after connecting it. Here's how to restore the power settings to default:

• Press the Windows logo key + I to open the
  Settings app.
• From Settings, select System > Power & sleep, then select
  Additional power settings.
• From the Power Options dialog box, select Choose when to turn off the display, then select
  Restore default settings for this plan.

After setting it to default, observe if the issue persists. If it does, kindly connect the second monitor to another computer and see the problem is observed. Also, kindly use a different HDMI cable to rule out the possibility of a faulty cable.
