Good evening, I have noticed that recently my computer fan does not turn off and wanted to check to see why. It appears that my Memory usage is extremely high literally all the time. I grabbed some screenshots of task manager and resource monitor, but all of the programs seem to be legitimate. I used MalwareBytes to scan the system but there were no malicious detections. If you have an idea of what I could do to reduce the idle memory usage, that will help a lot. I don't use my computer for much, just games when I get home from work, and this constant memory usage has impacted that as well, I

  2. Help with high memory usage while idle and nothing open

    Hello MastrKage,

High RAM usage when your PC is idle can be frustrating. Let’s explore some potential solutions to address this issue:

    1. Check for Resource-Intensive Processes:
      • Open the Task Manager (you can do this by right-clicking the taskbar and selecting “Task Manager”).
      • Look for any processes that are consuming a significant amount of memory even when your PC is idle.
      • If you find any resource-intensive processes, consider investigating further or terminating them.
    2. Disable Startup Programs:
      • Some applications automatically start when your PC boots up, consuming memory even when idle.
      • To manage startup programs:
        • Press Win + R, type “msconfig”, and hit Enter.
        • Go to the “Startup” tab and uncheck unnecessary programs.
        • Click “Apply” and “OK”, then restart your PC.
    3. Check for Malware or Unwanted Software:
      • Malware or unwanted background processes can cause high RAM usage.
      • Run a full system scan using your preferred antivirus software to ensure your system is clean.
    4. Disable Tips and Suggestions (Windows 11/10):
      • Windows provides tips and suggestions that can consume memory.
      • To disable them:
        • Open Settings.
        • Go to System > Notifications.
        • Turn off "Get tips, tricks, and suggestions as you use Windows."
    5. Monitor RAM Usage Over Time:
      • Use tools like Resource Monitor or RAMMap to track memory usage patterns.
      • Observe if there are any spikes or consistent high usage during idle periods.
    6. Update Drivers and Windows:
      • Outdated drivers or an outdated Windows version can lead to memory issues.
      • Ensure your drivers (especially graphics and chipset drivers) are up to date.
      • Install any pending Windows updates.
Remember that some RAM usage during idle is normal, but if it consistently exceeds a certain threshold (e.g., more than 30% or 80-90% as reported by some users), it’s worth investigating further. Hopefully, these steps will help optimize your RAM usage and improve overall system performance! ️

    Hope this helps,

My Memory usage is unusually high when idle.

My laptop memory usage improved a bit when I updated to Windows 10 ver 2004 (coming from 1909). My memory usage in 1909 when idle is around 70-80% and then when I updated to 2004 it became around 55-80%, I would like to know if any of you can give me tips
or a step-by-step instruction on how to reduce memory usage. I will attach the images below. This was bothering me because I can't browse chrome normally (for ex: receiving "not responding errors" randomly.

Computer Idling at 10GB memory usage after 1 week of no usage.

Hello, I have a 2015 model ASUS ROG GL 511JW laptop with 16GB DDR3 RAM and 4GB GTX 960M GPU with Intel i7 4720HQ processor. I decided to leave it on for 1 week and did nothing on the device. I let it idle for a whole week and at the end, I found that the memory usage from day 1 @ 2GB usage goes up to 10 GB on day 7. Fun thing is that the memory usage listed under the processes bar of task manager does not add up to even 2GB! Is it possible that my computer is being mined off of? or what could be the possible reason of this error? I'vetried updating all my drivers, used the laptop without it's battery connected, minimized total monitors used. But I still use massive memory chucks until I restart the device.
