    After I updated to Win 11 KB5017328 & KB5017497 today, my screen icon names and all messages of file explorer became scrmble symbols, please help!

    Erroneous symbols at the bottom left corner of desktop icons

    I'm running Windows 10 with the latest updates. A few days ago, the icons for objects on the desktop changed appearance. The icons are correct but
    all have a symbol at the bottom left corner:

    • Shortcuts show the correct shortcut symbol
    • All files erroneously show a shortcut symbol
    • Almost all folders erroneously show a shortcut symbol
    • Some folders erroneously show "X"

    The icons for files and folders (including the Desktop folder) displayed using File Explorer are all normal.

    I would appreciate any suggestions.

    Previewing Files in Windows Explorer 11 When # Symbol is in the File Name

    I upgraded to Windows 11 which will no longer allow you to preview files in Windows Explorer if the file name contains the # sign. A message pops up:

    File not found

    It may have been moved, edited, or deleted.

    ERR_FILE_NOT_FOUND

    When you remove the # symbol, the preview appears. Is there a way to allow preview with the # symbol in the file name? If not, is there an easy way to remove or substitute the # symbol from hundreds of file names?

    FILE EXPLORER ADDS SYMBOLS TO FILE NAMES

    This sounds like malware. Please post the full path of a folder that is affected in this way, e.g.

    C:\Users\John\Pictures
