Windows 10: My Laptop Recognizes my Headset as a Headphone

A year ago I updated windows to windows 11 and my headset with the mic was working fine until an update that made my sound flat while I was playing a game after the game I restarted my laptop and it didn't fix the issue. I searched online and found a fix to download the audio drivers from the developer, I did that and the sound came back but my headset where showing as headphones. I plugged my headset to both my phone and my second laptop and the mic was working fine. I tried updating the drivers and even using different drivers like High Definition Audio but that also failed. Headphone Jack does not recognize headset microphone

Hello,

Since a couple days the 3.5mm headphone jack of my computer does not recognize my headset microphone. When its plugged in the audio output works, but it says there is no microphone connected. It does recognize the headphones (audio output).

I already tried all of the following troubleshooting tips:

• The headset works on other devices (Laptop with Windows 11, PlayStation)
  
• Adjusting privacy settings.
  
• Enabling microphone in device manager (however this is not possible because it says its not connected)
  
• Reinstalling the device in control panel.
  
• Updating drives, windows etc.
  
• Other headsets also have the same problem on that port.
  

 

Headset microphone not being recognized

I have used this headset with the laptop before, and I have used both the mic and the headphones with it. However, I just went to use it again after some time, and my laptop doesn't recognize the mic with it. The sound still goes through the headphones,
and it registers it as such, but there is no option for the mic, the only available input listed is the laptop's built in mic.

Previously, there would be that "What Device Was Plugged In?" Popup, where you could select whether you had plugged in a headset or headphones. That no longer pops up, and I have failed to find a setting to reenable it, as was suggested when I was looking to
solve this problem on other question on the subject.

How can I get my computer to register that there is a microphone associated?

 

microphone is recognized as headphone when connected to headset 3.5mm port in the laptop

I have an ASUS k556U laptop with windows 11.

my microphone has a 3.5 mm jack when I connect it to my laptop it would be recognized as a headphone! the same is for the time when I connect my headset to laptop via headset port (for 3.5mm jack) it would be just recognized as a headphone and the microphone on the headset doesn't work!

although my laptop has an internal microphone, the quality of it is not that good so I'm willing to connect an external microphone but it doesn't work! (it used to work when I had windows 10 on my laptop)
